Report: Niners add another wideout to the mix

The 49ers reportedly have acquired another veteran wide receiver to compete for playing time. The team reached a one-year contract agreement with Cardinals free agent Bryant Johnson, according to an ESPN report.

Neither the 49ers nor Joel Segal, Johnson's agent, have publicly confirmed the report.

The 49ers were not interested in Johnson at the start of free agency. The club does not view him as a No. 1 receiver. He had a tendency to blend into games without being much of a factor behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. But Johnson received little attention on the open market, thus lowering his price to a reasonable level.

Johnson was on the other end of one of the 49ers' best defensive plays of the season. Cornerback Donald Strickland stripped Johnson of the ball on a fade route in the end zone in the closing seconds of regulation to prevent a Cardinals victory Nov. 25 in Arizona. The 49ers went on to win, 37-31, in overtime.

Johnson could be in a fight for playing time with Isaac Bruce, Darrell Jackson, Arnaz Battle, Ashley Lelie and Jason Hill. Last year, the 49ers kept five true wide receivers on their active roster (plus return man Michael Lewis, who was listed as a wideout).
Johnson, 27, was the No. 17 overall pick in the 2003 draft, but he was instantly overshadowed by the Cardinals' second-round selection that year, Boldin. Johnson has never caught more than 49 passes in his five NFL seasons, nor has he topped 750 receiving yards. Last season, he was third on the Cardinals with 46 receptions for 528 yards (11.5 average) and two touchdowns.

Veteran linebacker Takeo Spikes is scheduled to visit the 49ers tomorrow, reports the NFL Network. Spikes, 31, a 10-year veteran, recently failed a physical with the Eagles and was released. Spikes missed the final two games of the season with a torn rotator cuff. He ranked second on the Eagles with 139 tackles, 90 of which were solo efforts. Clearly, the 49ers are interested. (They're not going to bring in someone to visit if they weren't.) Unquestionably, they also want to check out the status of his shoulder. The 49ers do not want to confirm this visit until he arrives.

Carton Of Irregular Cat Hats

Hello. I have a big box of used cat and kitten hats that I have collected over the years for various occasions. As of recently my cat, Snowman, is no longer living and thus I am forced to get rid of these precious memories. I would not feel right asking money for them so I am offering the whole box for free. Here's the thing, I'm trying to clean up my life, but I've got to get rid of all the drugs from my past. So last night, as I was trying to empty all my stuff into the garbage, my wife came out and started trying to rip it out of my hands. Needless to say, and argument ensued, and soon the neighbors were in on it too.

We all stood there, arguing over what to do with the dope I wanted to throw out, when suddenly, my neighbor tried to rip in out of my hands. Now, I've got a serious problem.

The bag ripped and the white powder went EVERYWHERE. I mean, it's all over the lawn, the driveway, up and down the street. There's just a bunch of dope out there lying on the street. I'm terrified that the cops will come at any minute.

I mean, this stuff is thick, we're talking several inches just covering everything on the whole street.

So, Free dope, come one come all, bring your straws, your needles whatever, but PLEASE bring a shovel, you can have all of the powder from my driveway, my sidewalks, and even the grass if you promise to be gentle, but bring a TRUCK. There's a lot of this and I don't want any left behind.

First come, first served. Also, my neighbors have offered to let you have the powder on their property as well.

Near Southwest Plaza, email for directions. Hurry, an offer like this won't last long. (And I'm worried the cops are coming, so come QUICK).
