He may have a slight frame but Manningham knows how to stretch the field vertically and get in the endzone and you just know new offensive coordinator Mike Martz will be angling for a weapon like that. This one certainly feels like a perfect fit."

Consensus Draft Services - (Updated 1/25) Adarius Bowman WR 6-4 220 Oklahoma State Their Take - This pick goes to the Niners from the Colts. San Francisco needs a pass-rushing threat at OLB to complement Manny Lawson, but that can wait until the later rounds. Darrell Jackson was incredibly disappointing, in large part due to the regression of QB Alex Smith. Adding another WR is a possibility, and Adarius Bowman of Oklahoma State is a polished Anquan Boldin-type player with good strength and toughness. Not the fastest player, Bowman has good hands, but his final draft position could really hinge on his postseason performance.

Fantasy Football Jungle - (Updated 1/22) Malcolm Kelly WR 6-4 217 Oklahoma Their Take - "The 49ers trading their 1st round draft pick for OT J. Staley last year was a good idea, but putting Staley, who was barely 300 lbs. and ran under a 4.8 at RT was not. That along with many other questionable moves last offseason (new off. coordinator, A. Lelie, etc.) resulted in an awful offense. One of the steps to correcting it will be improving their receiving core and Kelly will definely do that. Kelly has great size, hands and natural body control. He's still raw and doesn't have great speed which is why he will likely still be available at this spot."

Draft Season - (Updated 1/23) Patrick Sims DT 6-4 310 Auburn Their Take - "The 49ers are looking for a run stuffing defensive tackle for the middle of their 3-4 defense. Sims has the ideal build for that, and he would allow Willis to roam free and create even more havoc."

Phin Fever - (Updated 1/20) Patrick Sims DT 6-4 310 Auburn Their Take - "The Niners need a Receiver, which they can get with their early second rounder. If they end up needing a Nose Tackle, there isn’t any use in taking chances and letting Sims get by them. Sims really came on towards the end of the year as he was finally realizing his potential."

Sports Fountainhead - (Updated 1/20) James Hardy WR 6-6 220 Indiana Their Take - "The 49ers need a big play WR and the best prospects are already gone (Jackson, Kelly, Sweed). Hardy has the tools to be a force in the NFL. He isn’t as fast as you would like but his build and hands may lead to a big career (if he can keep out of trouble). Terrell Owens, take two?"

Inside The Eagles - (Updated 1/25) Malcolm Kelly WR 6-4 217 Oklahoma As his name creeps into the picture he sounds like an interesting option at receiver. However, I'm starting to think the 49ers could go DL or OL here and still get a solid receiver with their 2nd round pick. -- Fooch

New NFL Draft - (Updated 1/8) James Hardy WR 6-6 220 Indiana Their Take - "The 49ers offense was very weak this year and solely relied on Frank Gore to carry the team. Alex Smith needs some more weapons to work with and James Hardy is the perfect player to draft to help a QB move forward in the passing game. Hardy is a very tall receiver with great hands."

East Coast Sports - (Updated 1/25) Kentwan Balmer DT 6-5 288 North Carolina Their Take - "The Niners would like an OT like Cherilus to fall to them here, but since he's gone they take Balmer who will play End in their 3-4 scheme...the team will target WR's like Eddie Royal and Harry Douglas with their other picks and Isaac Bruce in FA to teach them the ropes."

The Huddle Report - (Updated 1/19) Devin Thomas WR 6-3 220 Michigan St. Hmmm. First time I've seen this name, although he finished with 79 receptions, 1,260 yards. Might have to look into him a little more although he doesn't appear to be projected as a first rounder in many mocks. -- Fooch

That makes it harder to predict where they will go. I believe there is enough developing youth on their offensive line (Snyder, Baas and Staley) for them to pass on that early in this draft. It is hard to fault them for stopping the slide of a quality linebacker out of a college known for producing them."

The Football Expert(Eide) - (Updated 1/20) Early Doucet WR 6-0 207 LSU Their Take - "The 49ers receiving corps looked as though it would be vastly improved heading into 2007 but failed to meet expectations. Darrell Jackson is old and can’t catch, Ashley Lelie was maybe the worst free agent signing of ’07 and Arnaz Battle should not be anyone a QB should be forced to rely on. Doucet missed five games this year because of injury but came within two catches of setting his career high and averaged six receptions a game. The 49ers need consistency in their passing game more than anything else and Doucet delivers."

Chris Webber told ESPN.com on Monday night that he will arrive in Oakland on Tuesday to officially re-join the Golden State Warriors and play again for Don Nelson.

"I'll be there tomorrow," Webber said via e-mail. "It's a done deal."

Webber has signed for a pro-rated share of the league's $1.2 million veteran minimum, which computes to just under $570,000 if he stays with Golden State to the end of the regular season. But he won't hook up with his new teammates before Thursday at the earliest.

Although the club is scheduled to formally announce the signing Tuesday after the 34-year-old completes a physical, Golden State plays road games in Houston and New Orleans on Tuesday and Wednesday. The soonest Webber might play would be Friday's home game against the Charlotte Bobcats -- which is also a homecoming for longtime Warriors guard Jason Richardson -- but Nelson could elect to give Webber more time to get acclimated. The Warriors have five days off for practices after the Charlotte game.

When asked to elaborate on a reunion that's arguably even more unlikely than the brief stint Penny Hardaway completed with Shaquille O'Neal's Miami Heat earlier this season, Webber said he would speak at length about his decision later this week.

But this brief proclamation to confirm that he's returning to the team and city where he began his NBA career in 1993 -- and where he lasted only one season because of a fast-crumbling relationship with Nelson -- will be sufficiently stunning to longtime Warriors fans who believe that the breakdown of the initial Webber-Nelson partnership plunged Golden State into more than a decade of despair.

Before Nelson's own surprising and triumphant return to Oakland last season, which resulted in an immediate trip to the playoffs and a historic first-round upset of the 67-win Dallas Mavericks, Golden State hadn't reached the postseason since going 50-32 in 1993-94. That was Webber's first and only season as a Warrior, but the honeymoon was one of the shortest ever seen in the league. Some six months after winning NBA Rookie of the Year honors, Webber forced a trade to Washington to get away from Nelson, who was ousted as Warriors coach and general manager soon after.

But Nelson has been warmly welcomed back to the Bay Area by the Warriors' rabid fans in spite of the initial perception that he chased off one of the most talented players in franchise history. Nelson has fronted Golden State's unlikely push to bring him back and has maintained that he and Webber reconciled years ago, when he chose Webber to replace the injured O'Neal -- over Dirk Nowitzki from Nelson's Mavericks -- as the West's starting center for the 2002 All-Star Game in Philadelphia.

Although there is widespread skepticism regarding Webber's ability to keep up with Nelson's run-and-gunners -- given the mobility issues that have hampered the 34-year-old since a serious knee injury in the 2003 playoffs and subsequent microfracture surgery -- Nelson insists that the Warriors need Webber's passing and midrange game to get them unstuck when the game slows down or their countless 3-pointers aren't dropping.

Nelson and Warriors vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin -- one of Webber's teammates during his solitary season in Golden State -- have likewise expressed confidence that the 67-year-old coach and Webber are ready for this seemingly hard-to-fathom reunion after numerous conversations in recent days.

"I'm afraid if we don't get him here [that] our team is not strong enough to be a playoff team," Nelson said. "That's my biggest fear. I think if he comes it can benefit our team, it can benefit his and my relationship, it can benefit players on this team. I think he has a chance to make some of our players better and make our team better. Really that's all that's important. I'll get along with anybody who can help our team."
